[The video comes on to show a...closet. Or what once was a closet. ALL the clothing in it has been pulled down into a nest. And more noticeably there are not only six eggs in the nest, but the entire inside is coated in PAINT.

Two Smeagle are happily looking up at the camera, and Neku's voice can be heard from behind it]

...you realize this is a RENTED room, right? I have to pay for the damages?

[The mother dog just barks and holds out an egg for Neku]

And I can't keep 8 dogs.

[Whinewhine]

Okay, any that I can't rehome we can keep just... no more paint. In places I have to pay for. Just... stop crying already!

[As he talks, Bell, his Persian, walks on screen. Sniffs the eggs, and lays on them. Catherine the Smeargle sees this and starts barking wildly, to which the cat hisses]

No, no damn it not this again. Bell those aren't yours! Get up! Just... anyone want some eggs? Before they tear each other apart over them? They're all Smeargle I'm guessing- so if you want I can hatch them up and teach them a move with Sketch too. Just... they can't ALL stay here.

I just finished HATCHING a bunch of eggs...

Yeah, they're just complaining.

[He goes over, hauling Bell up into his arms. Or well, her upper body at least, her back paws dragging. She's almost as long as he is tall after all, and inching on 80 lbs. She grumbles but doesn't fight him removing her from the eggs, to which Catherine returns, smugly.]

[Well, at least she isn't fighting back. Though with Bell out of the way, Kaneki can get a better look at Catherine- her and all of her paintdog glory.]

...What kind of Pokemon is that?

She's a Smeargle. They're like... dogs? But they use their tails to paint. They can copy moves too, which is pretty neat. I haven't found a move yet they can't learn.

[He smiles slightly, shifting so he can rest his chin in his hand.]

They do look a little like dogs.

[But then he pauses, his head tipping to the side a little.]

How do they do that, though? ...paint with their tails, I mean.

Hey Leo, come'er.

[The male Smeargle comes over, curious, and Neku carefully picks up his tail to show off. Leo doesn't seem to mind. He is getting pets!]

See how it's really long, and fluffs at the end? There's a gland on the end that produces a paint like fluid- yeah it sounds gross but it doesn't smell bad and it's pretty clean. Anyways, they paint things with the tip of the tail. Mark their turf and things like that.

[He carefully turns Leo around to show his back-]

When they are full grown other Smeargle mark their backs with the 'paint' too, to show they're adults.

[Okay, that does sound really gross, but something about that is really interesting nonetheless.]

Wow...so is the paint always just one color, or is it different for all of them?

That sounds fair, as long as you give him back eventually.

[Neku seems trustworthy enough, so Luke doesn't mind lending out the Vulpix with the move. His Growlithe buddy, on the other hand, won't be too happy. Oh well.]

What do you mean by 'sketch', though? It doesn't sound like you want to draw the move...I don't really get it.

I've only seen green, but apparently if they're shiny it's different? I've been using it as a base with dye for painting though and with a little oil it works just as good as store bought only much less toxic.

They have a move that copies another move if they see it! They get to keep the move permanently too, unlike say, Mirror Move or if a Ditto used it.

But they have to learn Sketch again to do it again, so it's kinda slow going. But I wanna teach them as many different moves as possible so they can pass them on as egg moves, eventually.

I see...I guess that's a lot cheaper too, since you don't have to keep buying paint.

[He had been opening his mouth to say something else, but what Neku says catches him off guard a bit.]

Shiny? What is that?

It's like... erm, you know what albinism is? Or like, piebald?

It's like that for pokemon. Some are just born different colors, and are really rare.

[He nods slightly, moving to sit up a bit straighter on the bed.]

Yeah...I think I know what you mean.

[Kaneki falls silent again for a moment, watching the Smeargle and the eggs in the background with something of a thoughtful expression.]

Are you still looking for homes for all of them?

Sure am. Interested?

[Something in the back of his mind is going 'don't adopt a pet, you can barely take care of yourself', but at the same time he already has...two. And the weird thing is that they seem to be able to take care of themselves, more often than not. That, and he's certain Neku won't be able to take care of eight puppies...]

I...I wouldn't mind looking after one for you. I don't have all that much money, though.

[He does have some, but it's literally just the 3000P he arrived with. And he feels a little bad about staying in this hotel being paid for like he is already...but that much can't be helped.]

Hey, you're new. So don't worry about it. Think of it as a ... welcoming gift.

Ah....really?

[Kaneki's slight, somewhat unsure smile spreads into a more genuine grin at that.]

[....and then he remembers-]

I...don't think I got your name, before. My name is Kaneki Ken.

[He's...still a bit weirded out by the thought that his dog is going to hatch from an egg, but that seems to be something he's just going to have to get used to.]

Sounds time-consuming. But kinda cool, I guess.

[He didn't know Ditto didn't permanently keep moves. That makes Ditto slightly more disappointing to him.]

...It looks like laying eggs seems to be a common problem trainers have, huh?

[ it's just an observation he made after seeing a few of these posts, but he sounds a bit amused at Neku's predicament. Either ways, uh. ]

Maybe you should probably give one of them a time out first, though.

Yeah, though it'll start back up again eventually. Guess that just comes with having roomates

At the very least you can enjoy some peace and quiet right now.

...Not counting the music playing in the background constantly, as it is.

[ he sure hopes game characters don't have to suffer from this like he is right now. ]
